MP900449122We have all heard the famous quotes like “Time is money”, “You may delay but time will not” and how about “If you don’t have the time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?”

I noticed while conversing with 6 different people this week that they ending their conversation sarcastically or jokingly saying, “In my spare time”.  In business we have lists, calendars, deadlines, timelines, benchmarks, goals and so on. We become so enslaved by all we need to do that we can’t grasp how we will find the time to do it.

I’ve also noticed that while people say this it appears as though their mind is wandering off to someplace where time is available and they for a moment visit a distant dream of what they would really like to do, a place they would like to go, or seeing something they would really like to accomplish completed.

We are our own source for lack of time. Step back and take a look at how you operate. Are you as technologically savvy as you could be or are you procrastinating on learning skills that could free up time by getting you better organized? Are you able to fully trust new technology or other workers who could lighten your work load? Have you created a paper trail or better yet paper trap? Do you hoard papers rather than hard drive them, creating an environment that has you spending a lot of time searching rather than researching? Is there someone in your office that is digging their feet in and refusing to change with the times, is that is pulling you or your organization back or dragging you down? It’s time to work smarter not harder.

We consciously have to rethink how we think if we want to win back precious time. If we verbalize that we don’t have time, can’t make time or take time then guess what, its true time will be limited because what we put forth is what we get back.  William Penn said “Time is what we want most, but we use worst”. How you choose to invest your time in everything you think, say and do will wither set you free or enslave you.  Take a minute and think about it.

In which ways do you help to plan your time, are there tools you have found helpful?  Let us know…
